The LCEEQ, working alongside the DSREA of the Ministry of Education, annually allocates funding to foster local innovative initiatives. While the budget for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year remains unannounced, the review and selection process for these projects is actively progressing. This preliminary report outlines the status of applications under consideration.
The John Killingbeck Teacher/Administrator Scholarship Program (Category A) allows school teams, guided by a local administrator, to visit exemplary sites where they can observe projects that could enhance their own school community. Currently, five applications, totaling approximately $105,500, are under review.
An alternate approach was introduced two years ago under Category B, where instead of travelling to observe a programme, the school team can now invite an expert to the school/centre to facilitate local professional development. A crucial element of this initiative is the support provided to the local administrator. For the next academic year, there are eight applications under consideration valued at approximately $72,000.
The Professional Development and Innovation Grants (PDIG) program has garnered significant interest, receiving ninety-nine applications for the 2025-2026 school year. With a total submission value of $910,000, the Selection Committee faces the challenge of allocating funds, as this amount well exceeds the anticipated approved budget. .
LCEEQ expects to receive approval for the budget related to these projects soon. It is anticipated that applicants will be notified about the status of their proposals before the end of the current school year, but most not before the listed date in the Funding Document of May 31, 2025.
