Using and Connecting Mathematical Representations Grades 3-4 - A 2-Day Series

January 18, 2024 & February 21, 2024
9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM

In this two-part workshop, we will explore ways to have students develop essential fraction concepts, such as equivalent fractions and comparing fractions, through models, representations, and real-life contexts. We will also consider how to support students to make connections to mathematical procedures and foster “aha moments” where students discover “short-cuts” on their own.

Using and Connecting Mathematical Representations Grades 5-6 - A 2-Day Series

January 24, 2024 & March 20, 2024
9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM

In this two-part workshop, we will explore ways to have students model fractions, decimals and percents using multiple representations and real-world contexts. We will also consider how to support students to make connections between representations, use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, and foster “aha moments” where students discover “short-cuts” (or mathematical procedures) on their own.

Using and Connecting Mathematical Representations Grades 7-8 - A 2-Day Series

January 31, 2024 & March 14, 2024
9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM

In this two-part workshop, we will explore ways to have students model proportional relationships using multiple representations and real-world contexts. We will also consider how to support students to make connections between representations, use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies, and foster “aha moments” where students discover “short-cuts” (or mathematical procedures) on their own.
