Initiation to the 5 shifts and the TQE Process in K-2 with Thomasenia Adams
A 2-Part Series November 21, 2022 & February 24, 2023 9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM
Audience: Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, elementary school administrators
These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Plane Shapes and Measurement. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.
Initiation to the 5 shifts and the TQE Process in 3-4 with Juli Dixon
A 2-Part Series November 16, 2022 & February 1, 2023 9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM
Audience: Grade 3 and Grade 4 teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, elementary school administrators
These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Fraction Comparison and Equivalence and Place Value. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.

Audience: Grade 5, Grade 6 and Grade 7 (Secondary I) teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, school administrators
These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Representing and Naming Fractions and Fraction Comparison and Equivalence. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.
Initiation to the 5 shifts and the TQE Process in 8-9 (Secondary II and III) with Ed Nolan
A 2-Part Series November 10, 2022 & February 10, 2023 9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM
Audience: Grade 8 (Secondary II) and Grade 9 (Secondary III) teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, school administrators
These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Ratios and Proportions and Proportional Relationships. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.
Initiation to the 5 shifts and the TQE Process in 10-11 (Sec IV & V) with Ed Nolan
A 2-Part Series November 29, 2022 & April 14, 2023 9:00 -11:00AM & 1:00 - 3:00PM
Audience: Grade 10 (Secondary IV) and Grade 11 (Secondary V) teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, school administrators
These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Patterns and Rates of Change and Linear Representations. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.** Please note that the 10-11 sessions are not course specific, there will be a mix of content that applies to CST and/or TS and/or SN. **
Re-inventing Mathematics Intervention with Juli Dixon
