Initiation to the 5 shifts and the TQE Process in K-2 with Thomasenia Adams

Audience: Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 teachers not having had the opportunity to attend the Math Summer Institute, resource teachers, elementary school administrators

These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Plane Shapes and Measurement. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.

These two sessions will focus on contextualizing the Five Shifts and the TQE Process through the mathematical concepts of Patterns and Rates of Change and Linear Representations. Participants will engage in mathematical tasks designed to elicit students’ mathematical ideas and alternative conceptions. Discussions will include strategies to encourage student-to-student discourse and scaffold support to provide access to each and every learner.** Please note that the 10-11 sessions are not course specific, there will be a mix of content that applies to CST and/or TS and/or SN. **
