The LCEEQ Newsletter - Issue 042 - The Welcome Back Edition

A New Academic Year Begins

Back to School

Where did those hot summer months go? School is well back in session and it seems like those lazy vacation days were quite some time ago. Hopefully, being able to do some of the things that you enjoyed on holiday have recharged the batteries and you are ready for the celebrations and challenges of the new academic year.

LCEEQ has already held two meetings. The Steering Committee met in late August to work on planning and the full LCEEQ Table met on September 13th at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board to launch the new year. This initial meeting included two presentations. The first was by Mr. William Floch, Secrétaire Adjoint of the recently created Secretariat for relations with English-speaking Quebecers under the direction of Minister Kathleen Weil. The second was M Denis Matte who presented the Plan stratégique 2017-2022 of the Ministry of Education

LCEEQ wishes you well as you set out to accomplish your goals for 2018-2019. We invite you to visit the website, particularly the membership page to see who represents you at the table. Remember that every time you sign into your account you have the chance at a random monthly prize draw.

One useful service is the LCEEQ Calendar. When planning events, check to see if there are any conflicts with the dates you are considering. We would be delighted to include important dates for your organization. There is a link where you can provide the necessary information to be listed. By including your activities on the calendar, you contribute important information as to what is happening in the English Educational Community.

Professional Development Resources at your Fingertips

LCEEQ launches an updated website to assist you with your Professional Development plans. For several years, quality workshops that were offered at our Annual Conference have been listed for members to consult when organizing local PD events. Along with this Directory, we have added all the PDIG approved reports from the 2017-2018 year. These documents include the final report and a contact for the project creator for each of the funded projects. In many cases, projects included the creation of pedagogical materials which are also available for your perusal and adaptation to fit the needs of your classroom or organization.

The LCEEQ Looks to the Well Being of Its Own Members

The deadline for the Call for Proposals for our annual major event is quickly approaching. We have received several applications for consideration to date. A major strength of our Annual Conference is the quality of the local programme. We are always soliciting presentations of the many quality projects and activities that are taking place throughout all of our member groups. These projects need to be celebrated and shared with colleagues across the province. This is the perfect opportunity to do so. The deadline for submissions has been extended to October 5th so act quickly and finalize a proposal if you have not already done so. Even if you have never presented at a Conference before, this is a wonderful opportunity to share the great work that you are doing. More information is available on the LCEEQ website.

In the meantime, mark your calendars for February 11-12, 2019 at the Sheraton Laval Hotel. Each Board/Association has a quota, so if you are interested in attending make certain that the person responsible at your organization is aware of your interest as available spaces fill quickly.

There will be a dedicated Conference Website coming soon where you will be able to get all the information you need to register.
