Kicking Off a New Two-Year Cycle

summer

LCEEQ hopes that you had a grand summer – a time to do those things that you really enjoy but are too busy to accomplish during the school year. The summer months pass so quickly, but we trust that you had the time to reenergize and are ready for the challenges and opportunities of the new academic year. We wish you well as you strive to provide students in your charge with the ultimate goal, success.

In accordance with the LCEEQ Bylaws, this marks the beginning of the next two-year cycle. The members of the Regular LCEEQ Committee and the Steering Committee have been appointed by their respective groups for a two-year term. The Regular Committee represents all levels from pre-school through University and Adult and Vocational Education. The Steering Committee are the Directors of the LCEEQ Corporation. Members welcome your input.

If you have an enquiry, recommendation, or just a good idea that you feel the Committee should consider but are not sure how to have your voice heard, simply write to info@lceeq.ca.

Superior Court Ruling – Bill 40

brief

It has been a long time in coming! In 2020, the Quebec English Schools Boards Association (QESBA) challenged many parts of Bill 40, particularly those related to school organization and governance. In early August 2023 the Quebec Superior Court rendered its decision upholding the challenge. The Association is currently reviewing the lengthy ruling and meeting to determine next steps. At this time, the Quebec Government has not pronounced itself on how it expects to respond to the judgment.

LCEEQ is interested in learning more about the judgment and its impact. Bill 40 will be a focus of discussion at the next LCEEQ General Meeting.

The judgement makes for some very interesting reading from a historical perspective.

The Annual LCEEQ Conference is Just Six Months Away

If you ask many educators across the province, LCEEQ is synonymous with the February Conference. Certainly, LCEEQ is involved in so much more than this one event, but the conference is a major attraction, an opportunity for educators from the four corners of the province to learn together and network. After offering successful virtual Conferences, the February 2024 edition will be held once again in person.

brief

The Conference theme is Embracing A Culture of Belonging and will be held at the Palace Convention Center (Laval) on February 12-13, 2024. Mark the dates. Registration will be open in mid-November. The keynote and featured speakers have all been engaged. A major strength of our Conference since its inception fifteen years ago is the contributions by our local presenters. This is your chance to contribute.

The Call for Proposals is open. If you feel passionate about what you are doing, you are encouraged to share that passion with the wider educational community.
